Knit One Kill Two Knitting Mysteries No 1 Maggie Sefton Books
I read this after reading the 6th, Christmas novel in the series. I liked this one more, though my quibbles about the 6th one still pertain. While I like that the women took the initiative in finding the killer of one of their friends- it was not exactly realistic, since involving the cops earlier and more would have improved the prospect of the killer being convicted.
And, again, the women's careers are totally secondary to knitting and support of Kelly- who was a newcomer, and as such does not seem likely to inspire such self-sacrificing support.
The evocative passages are weak. "Eduardo's coffee" is always, always described with purple prose. Whenever Kelly is stressed- and even when she's not- she strokes and fondles yarn and knitted goods. And- the most profound feeling she seems to have is "good". Everything positive feels "good", and this is more telling, not showing.
Still, the plot was intricate and tricksy, and the villain appropriately slimy. There was rather too much coincidence leading to the resolution, though.
All in all, a pretty decent cozy mystery. I have not tried the recipe or the knitting pattern.

Knit One Kill Two Knitting Mysteries No 1 Maggie Sefton Books Reviews
Love a good mystery...this fits the bill! Then with the added knitting and yarn store...an added plus! Now I'll have to find the right yarn to try the same patterns and maybe even the yummy sounding rolls!!!
This was a very enjoyable book until around 90 percent of the way through. At that point the main character made a very unrealistic assumption with no prior information that provided a solution, but ruined the rest of the story.
I actually read this book out of order so new a lot of the characters. But this didn't make any differencebecaise I fell in love with Kelly as her friends agaon.
Being a knitter and a murder mystery buff - I thought for sure this book would be right up my alley. The story revolves around Kelly - a big city girl who comes home after her Aunt is killed. She spends her time getting to know the locals, learning to knit and working to find her aunt's killer. I was going to take the rest of the series off my wish list until I got to the end. I do believe that this series has promise - but as a stand alone first novel it was missing a bit. I believe the story could have used a good editor and a bit of character clean up. There are way too many characters for my taste. Still, the story did have twists and turns that kept me reading. The book also comes with a recipe and a knitting pattern (in the back) - which I can't wait to try (I picked up the yarn this past weekend).
I love to knit and this was just the mystery for me! I liked the characters and recommend this cozy mystery to everyone. I also liked the knitting patterns and recipes at the end of the book.
Wow, I think I'm pretty tough on new authors, but some of the other reviewers left me wondering if we'd read the same book. While the huge stable of characters makes for difficult going sometimes, I find Ms. Sefton's writing style to be brisk and competent. For me, that's a definite plus. I'm a stickler for good grammar; poor writing skills keep dropping an attentive reader out of the story. I didn't have this problem with Ms. Sefton. Her grammar is good, although she overuses the word "resonate" to distraction and suffers problems with POV and attribution. These latter skills are mastered through experience, and I hope the author works to gain competence in them. Otherwise, I found the novel very good, with vivid descriptions both of the Colorado mountains and the heady subjects of yarn and knitting. The plot was entertaining, the mystery satisfying, and the main character, Kelly Flynn, very likeable. I look forward to reading her next installment of this series. However, there is an unfortunate reference to breeding steers that left me chuckling. Clearly, the author needs a bit of research when venturing outside the comforts of House of Lambspun. Otherwise, this book is a great read!
This the first book in the Knitting Mystery series. Kelly is a CPA and has come back to Colorado after her aunt has been murdered. She is befriended during this difficult time by the owner of the yarn shop that is now in the former home of her aunt before she moved to the cottage. Kelly is amazed by the variety of yarns and patterns at the shop. She has never been a knitter, but is encouraged by the group to start to help with her grief and maintain a connection with her aunt. While the police believe it was a local vagrant, Kelly finds some things that just don't add up her aunt recently refinanced her home at a predatory rate and had a large sum in cash with her that is now missing. Also missing is her family heirloom quilt and it looks like the killer ran off with some of her aunt's knitting. As she delves into her aunt's past, she finds some hidden secrets that may lead her to find the real murderer. First books in a series are always a little challenging, as there is a lot of setup that needs to take place. Some of the characters need a bit more development and I found the romance angle to be a bit awkward at this point. The craft angle is interesting in this one as it comes from a novice's perspective rather than an experienced crafter. There are two patterns included with the novel.
This series has a great setting and plenty of interesting, fleshed out characters; unfortunately, the main character is so flat and unlikable I can't bring myself to read another one in this series. Add to it, the obviously forced love interest that she is incredibly rude to (b/c he remotely resembles her ex) and her odd (and completely overdone) reaction to learning how to knit and I'm one and done. Sad, it was actually a good mystery with lots of red herrings. One other super bothersome item NO ONE on this planet would run five miles and then gasp for a drink of coffee! Clearly this author has never entered a gym or she would know you don't gulp down hot coffee when you are hot and tired. Trying too hard to give the main character a "quirk"....
