Lots of good vs. evil, escapes from imminent death, and rocky road to HEA comfortably propelled me through the pages. I enjoyed the likable characters, appropriately hissed at the nasty characters and revved up with the action scenes. The sexually intimate scenes (not gag-me-with-spoon type, thankfully) did not take over the novel and were spaced fittingly within the flow of the work. Overall, a nice beginning book to a series that can be a stand alone -- no cliff hangers but enough interesting characters to have me looking forward to following the series.

Marissa Clarke has developed a new world full of danger and adventure that will draw you in right from the beginning. Elena Arcos never even knew this hidden world existed until the night she almost died. Now she's on the run from those who want to kill her and she finds out that she is the uniter, whatever that is suppose to be. And if all that isn't enough to take in she is being bossed around all over the world by a hot jerk who keeps threatening to kill her named Nikolai.

I was pulled into this book within the first chapter and I couldn't put it down. I loved the tension between Elena and Nikolai. I always have a hard time typing reviews to express how I feel about a book but I talk about this book to everyone who will listen. I found myself talking to the characters like they were right in front of me. And when I talk to a book it's one I feel others need to know about.

If you haven't picked this book up you need to. Trust me. This book gets The Crazy Booksellers stamp for excellent series starter.
This was a really good book. There was no silly "I love you, I hate, I love you, I hate you" back and forth drama BS. The supporting characters were hilarious. The main heroine was strong, intelligent, vulnerable when needed, but worked well in a team. The hero was a good mix of idiotic alpha male must learn to adapt to independent female, and idiotic alpha male must learn to love for the first time. I enjoyed his journey.

However......where is the follow up book? Over a year has passed since the release of this book and there is no mention of a follow up book on her web site, no "I'm working on the sequel, hang in there...". It's such a let down. So just be prepard to read a great book, get really invested in a great story, and then lost in the great chasm of nothingness.
What's there to say, it had action,adventure ,sex, romance ? Not sure, I mean sometimes in theses books it's easy to forget what exactly really romance really is..is it just sex? Is it hearts and Florida were and kind words ? Is it special moments that can be sweet or spicy that either get you all hot and bothered and excited or sweet tender moments that make wanna weep or cry or go aaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwww ;) not sure really but even thou I really came really,really like Nikolai he was a bit of a dumb butt head at his and said and did soo many dumb things are times you wanted to be Elena and knock him up side the head ( like Gibbs might do, if you've ever watched NCIS) but it was a fun read and I'm glad I spent time with them and I hope there are many,many more Adventures in store with them... Especially his sister and Vlad and the interesting Time Folder Stefan ;)

This book is a wild ride and it is hard for me to believe the total shift the book takes from a convenience store robbery to the concluding paragraph.

It is hard to write this review without spoiling the story. It is the story of the underveil, a world unseen by humans. In this world, vampires, shifters, slayers, elves, time folders and other creatures co-exist--often not peacefully.

The main characters Elena Arcos finds herself bound to a slayer through an elven cord. This slayer, Nikolai, is sent to kill her but ends up saving her instead. It seems Elena is the Uniter, the fulfillment of prophecy, and she must go from a human researcher to immortal game changer in a mere four hundred pages.
Nikolai wants to avenge his father's death by killing Elena, the offspring of his father's assassin. His feelings grow for Elena, and soon he learns that what he knew of her father was false, and that fate has intertwined his destiny with hers.

The plot was riveting and the love scenes were super charged. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can't wait to read the next book in the series. So, I will leave you with this Make good choices; read this book.
This is a pretty good story. Tons of action, magic, fighting and send little bit of hot sex thrown in. I loved the characters and the writing was really professional. This is the first book by this author I have read and I like her style. The world she made that humans and paranormal live in was an interesting way to explain how we can both live in the same world. I think if you like the popular authors of paranormal books you should really like this one. Great storyline, great writting and great characters. You can't lose!
I totally fell in love with this book. I was more crushed that Book 2 - 100 of this set isn't available. (I can hope there are 99 more of these books if the rest that follow are as fun as the first one!).

Yes, the lead male is an Alpha (you either like that type or you don't), the lead female is trying to find herself. I wouldn't call her weak, more comfortable and not one to make waves. Basically, your average run of the mill human. Let me tell you the chemistry between these two is crazy fun. She finds her balance and that only throws him off his.

The world, I fell into this world and did not want to leave. Clarke does a great job of dragging you into her madness and I for one wanted to stay and play some more. Lots of questions and lots of potential to carry on in this world for a long time remain. I can't wait until I can visit again.
